The evolution of my most recent cameraless photography mosaic ‘rapture’
I thoroughly enjoy the process of creating these grids, the way the image evolves and reveals itself is very gratifying and allows me to indulge in a little meditative distraction.
I managed to get this one done in a few weeks. Think I’m getting the hang of it now as previous ones have taken much longer.
Stage 1 involves cutting up the 1 inch square sections from cameraless prints made in the darkroom, mostly photograms of random objects, or luminograms created by capturing light patterns and reflections.
Stage 2 is layout time, I usually start at the centre with a rough idea of the end result in mind and place the squares onto a temporary background with masking tape allowing opportunity for the inevitable and necessary tweaking.
Once I’m happy with the final layout the squares are glued onto their permanent background in stage 3.
Finally it’s framed in a simple black frame with double white archival mount.
I’m really pleased with how this one turned out and now looking forward to starting the next one…
