LATENT SKIES

In 2017 I discovered amongst my darkroom materials an old box of 5x4” duplicating film.

I had enjoyed using gold leaf in my golden moments series and thought it would work well against the base colour of this unprocessed film.

This set of works further explore the allure of a sunset and allowed me to move in a more painterly direction but still include an element from the darkroom. This time the landscape has more solidity with dark gritty foreground (black acrylic & cement) contrasting shimmering gold on a dusky sky.

I wonder now if some of these are more like raging apocalyptic wild fires than sunsets.

I don’t really mind either way.

This series is ongoing and will continue until the box of film runs out.
